USA Hockey's National Disabled Festival This Weekend In Detroit

USA Disabled Hockey is front and center this coming weekend, April 7th-10th, as it's 2016 National Festival is here in Detroit.  The action features teams made up of disabled veterans, blind / visually impaired athletes, deaf / hard of hearing, and sled teams in both the junior and senior divisions.  Teams are from all over the US, with Michigan being represented by the Grand Rapids Sled Wings in both the junior and senior divisions, the Michigan Sled Dogs in the senior division, and a team of disabled veterans, the Michigan Warriors.  The games start Thursday afternoon and take place at two locations, Fraser Hockeyland Arenas on Utica Rd. in Fraser, MI. and St. Clair Shores Civic Arena on Stevens St. in St. Clair Shores, MI.  The championship games in most divisions take place on Sunday in Fraser.  Click here for the schedule.  We have a monthly disabled hockey event at Crystal Fieldhouse, with the goal of creating a sled team, Aaron's Ice Raiders, named after Aaron Berry, a 12 year-old paraplegic who's wish is to be able to skate.
